7 Gotta-Have-It-Right-Now Beauty Product Picks
Every fashion lover worth her salt knows that–DUHHH–the September issue is THE magazine issue of the year. For beauty lovers, our magic month is October. Why’s that, you ask? It’s the month Allure‘s Best of Beauty issue hits newsstands! YESSSSS!
For you poor unfortunate souls who don’t know what I’m talking about: Allure‘s Best of Beauty issue is the magazine’s annual issue that contains the staff’s picks for, well, the best beauty products. It’s sort of like the winners list for the Olympics of beauty products. They test a bajillion products over the course of the year and pick a winner for each category–from the perfect red lipstick to the rockin’-est heat-protecting spray to the ultimate self-tanner–and basically provide beauty lovers with the master shopping list we’ve been waiting for all year. #brokebutbeautiful #amirite?
Of course, this year’s BoB cover featured Cara Delevingne, who is literally EVERYWHERE right now. (Am I the only one suffering from CD fatigue?)
Feeling inspired, I decided now would be an awesome opportunity to share my OWN personal beauty “winners.” I could probably rant and rave for years about my faves, so I’m cutting it down to my top 7 can’t-live-without products!
Alterna Bamboo Smooth Anti-Breakage Thermal Protectant Spray
I feel like I say this all the time, but it’s seriously the truth: I am a heat junkie. You will have to pry my hot tools from my cold, dead fingers before I part ways with them. So yes, I have had my fair share of heat-related disasters, and can testify firsthand to the importance of protection, protection, protection! This spray is lightweight but keeps your locks safe against temps up to 428 degrees (just curious: what happens when you get to 429…?) so feel free to crank your curling iron up all the way and go to town. Your hair will be sleek, frizz-free, and happy. Alterna Thermal Protectant Spray, $25, ulta.com
Ole Henriksen Invigorating Night Treatment
I can’t fall asleep without this serum on my face. I spread a layer on post-cleanse and pre-moisturizer. It stops breakouts in their tracks and brightens overall complexion. It’s pretty amazing. As I told my friend, “you’ll wake up looking and feeling like Beyonce.” Ole Henriksen Invigorating Night Treatment, $45, olehenriksen.com
Kate Somerville EradiKate Spot Treatment
For pesky zits that pop up out of NOWHERE (so what if I ate an entire pizza by myself? That’s not my skin’s fault! Why is it being punished?!), I immediately reach for this baby. Dip a Q-Tip into the pink solution and dab on your unwelcome guest, go to sleep, and wake up with clear skin. I love this stuff. EradiKate Acne Treatment, $24, katesommerville.com
Make Up For Ever Aqua Black Waterproof Cream Eye Shadow
This is idiot-proof eyeliner (technically an eyeshadow, though everyone I know who uses this stuff uses it pretty much exclusively as a liner–myself included). All you need is a great angled brush and the perfect cat eye is pretty much guaranteed. It has amazing lasting power, amazing color payoff, and is easy to clean up with a Q-Tip and makeup remover (for eye makeup touch-ups and fixes, I recommend Sephora’s 2 in 1 Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover Gel since it doesn’t leave any greasy residue). It’s also great for application along the waterline! Make Up For Ever Aqua Black Waterproof Cream Eye Shadow, $23, sephora.com
Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner Pencil
I swear by this pencil and am on a mission to convert the whole world to its amazingness. Not only does it provide amazing coverage and color adherence for lipsticks applied atop it, YOU CAN EAT FOOD AND NOT WORRY ABOUT YOUR LIPSTICK THE ENTIRE MEAL. I ate a massive club sandwich at lunch and some pretty greasy halal food for dinner and I GOT COMPLIMENTS FROM STRANGERS ON THE STREET FOR MY AMAZING LIPSTICK ON THE WAY HOME. I kid you not. I hated lipstick before this lip liner happened to me. Now I can’t stop wearing it. Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner Pencil, $19, sephora.com
Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer
Your face will not only feel like velvet, you’ll also look beautifully glow-y and radiant all day long. Your foundation will not budge at ALL. I love, love, LOVE this primer! Definitely worth the price.(PSST: Learn more about other awesome primers in Amanda’s post!) Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, $52, hourglasscosmetics.com
Butter London Polish in Toff
This is my favorite nail polish shade. It’s conservative enough to not raise eyebrows in super-formal situations, but it’s edgy enough to be interesting and fun. It looks good on most skin tones, too! I’m partial to shades with more purple in them since I’ve got seriously yellow undertones (thanks, jaundice I had as a baby) but even gals with pinker or more neutral undertones can rock this shade, no problem. Butter London Nail Laquer in Toff, $15, butterlondon.com
Alright, I’m off to shop my way into poverty. Toodles!
