7 Winter Dryness LIFESAVERS

In polite society, ashiness is generally frowned upon.

In polite society, ashiness is generally frowned upon.

Winters in New York are NO JOKE, especially for biddies like myself who need to be slathered in moisture 24/7 (lest we turn into one giant, dry flake and float off in the bitter winter wind…), but the good news is that wintertime means more downtime–or at least more time spent indoors–so it’s also a great opportunity for some super-serious TLC. And by TLC I do mean Tender Loving Care, but if you’re also gonna binge watch My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding and/or Say Yes to the Dress and/or 90 Day Fiancé, I am definitely in no position to judge…

So while you’e busy reducing your brain to gelatin in front of the TV or powering through your to-read list on Goodreads, take a second to take care of yourself. Buff away, moisturize, do a mask…don’t let winter have its way with you! Here are my picks for keeping your body supple and happy all winter long. Happy self-loving, y’all!

Ballin’ on a Budget: 6 Beauty Winners at Target

anigif_enhanced-buzz-22458-1361807957-0

I LOVE TARGET. I could spend hours on end wandering aimlessly through aisle after aisle, filling my cart with all sorts of goodies. I love their food selection, men’s pajamas, homewares, prices on toothpaste…yes, Target is a very special place for me. Especially the one in Spanish Harlem, which is conveniently located only twenty-ish blocks from where I live. It’s a pain to get to, still, since it’s so far east, but the moment I walk through those sliding doors and into that red-and-white themed megastore I’m in heaven. I grab an iced tea at Starbucks, a shopping cart, and start cruisin’.

I must admit that I haven’t really purchased any beauty supplies from a drugstore since turning 21. I discovered the magical world of specialty stores and never looked back. But after recently making some big-ish plans for the not-so-far-away future, I realized it’s time to scale back a little.

And it sucked, at first, until I realized that I had definitely been overspending. A sizable amount of stuff I was getting at speciality stores had counterparts equal (or even better) in quality just waiting in the local drugstore! Now THAT was a revelation. And since my no. 1 goal for 25 is to manage my money better, I made the trek uptown and took the first step into making this year a glorious, beautiful, and much less expensive one.

Everything’s Coming Up Roses: 15 Must-Have Rose Products

DSCF7939It’s safe to say that roses are having a ~*moment*~. Rose-based/infused/fragranced stuff is EVERYWHERE–and I, for one, am not complaining. The rose may be the basic bitch of flowers (and I’m an authority on this; I’ve worked in a luxury floral boutique for over a year now) but it’s also unapologetically classic. Roses also offer tons of wonderful cosmetic benefits, giving you glowy, supple skin. The fragrance is intoxicating. And roses are full of powerful antioxidants that can calm, nurture, and protect your face from daily environmental abuse. I hopped aboard the rose train and have not looked back! Here’s a roundup of my favorite rose products, from lip gloss to bath bombs. Enjoy!

P.S. Thanks to a recent change of heart, all products I use and discuss are now cruelty-free. So enjoy with a clean conscience! 🙂 xoxo

The Fantastic Four: Outstanding Oils!

LOLOLOLOLOL OIL IS GREAT I LOVE OIL

So it’s been a hot second since I last wrote about my skincare routine and let me tell you, there have been some CHANGES! Y’all completely did not hear about my adventure into the land of Soap & Glory, which was a passionate and short-lived (but fondly remembered) dalliance that ended in heartbreak, i.e., Sephora discontinuing carrying their products. Supposedly shops like Target (ahem, Targét) will start carrying the line soon, but in the interim I was left high and dry and with a face that was quickly crumbling into Crypt Keeper territory.

Crypt Keeper

Me showing up late to a function.

I’d been reading about oil cleansers for some time now, but hadn’t been blown away by any that I’d tried. They mostly left my face feeling kinda greasy and unclean. So I wasn’t expecting much when I got a sample of Tatcha’s One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil–I honestly just picked it because of the packaging. #shamelesslyshallow

One wash later and I was in love.
